From the Welcome to the swan valley centennial bonspiel, 1898 - 1998 brochure:

The Tall/Taylor Families Curling Connection

The Talls have always enjoyed curling and sports in general. Alf and Charlie's families played ball in the summer and curled all winter. Once Charlie and Alf were so engrossed in discussing a game they had just played, they drove their horse and cutter almost two miles out of town before they realized they had left one of the children behind. When Alf won a case of ginger ale in a bonspiel, he wouldn't let the children have a taste because the "ale" might make them drunk. A curler as well, Mamie Tall's first skip was Mrs. Ike Woods. She and Alf rarely missed a game that involved family. Their son-in-law, Ellery Taylor, was an ice-maker in Swan River for years. His son, Larry, was well known in competitive curling circles. Alf's grandson, Barry Tall, has followed in the family tradition of ice-making in Swan River. The Tall and Taylor names appear on trophies throughout the Valley and they take pleasure in donating another to solute this centennial celebration.
