Northwest Territory, Saskatchewan District, Victoria Report
For the 60th annual report of the
Missionary Society to the Methodist Conference. 1883 - 81. pg xviii.

Many times during the past year we have felt much discouraged at the lack of apparent results in connection with our work at Victoria - the field seems so barren. And yet we believe much good has been done though only one conversion has been witnessed. No new appointments have been taken up, but the old ones have been regularly sustained. The attendance upon our services has been good, much better than usual. The general religious tone of the settlement seems to be steadily improving = the "gospel leathen" is at work.

While we are doing what we can for the adult population, we are paying special attention to the young. Our Sabbath-school is very interesting and we are much encouraged by the efforts of the children to acquire a knowledge of God's Word. The number of verses they have each Sunday, and the perfect manner in which they recite them, is astonishing. From the 1st of October to the close of March we are conducting a day-school. Farming operations forced us to close it for a time, but we intend to re-open it soon.

The work at Egg Lake is still in its infancy, but it is promising. The chief's wife died lately. Her end was peace. The chief himself is under deep conviction. The last time I saw him he said, "I am thinking of God all the time, and often when I am out hunting I kneel down and ask Him to make me a good man."
