Wahstao Mission

The Wahstao mission was founded by Miss Reta Edmonds and Miss Jessie Munro in June of 1904.  They lived three months in a tent before construction of their mission house was completed in September. Their efforts were directed towards Ukrainian women and children and they had a school and Sunday school. In 1907 they started taking in boarders and by 1908 their staff had grown to four. The mission was located about fifteen miles to the east of Pakan. The name of the mission comes from what the native people called the mission and means "Light on the Hill".
