From the Smoky Lake Signal, Wednesday, December 15, 1993. Bill Carson - Wheat Pool Delegate's years of service honoured. Bill Carson, retired Wheat Pool delegate for Subdistrict 801, was presented a plaque in honour of his nine years of service by the new delegate, Robert Feniak. Mr. Carson won a bi-election for delegate rep in 1984 after the Wheat Pool's first ever woman delegate Angela Clark died soon after being elected. There are 72 delegates in the province and nine directors. The job of delegates is to hear complains, and said Bill Carson, "there aren't that many. It is a pretty smooth running outfit." As well, a delegate is to advice the advisory board and help set policy at the annual convention. Mr Carson served as a delegate for the Alberta Pork Producers Marketing Board in 1971, and from 1973 to 1979 has served as a director. Mr. Carson and his wife Anne have farmed north of Waspite for 40 years. Bill took over his father's homestead after working on the rigs from 1950 - 1954. They own three quarters of land and have farmed up to five. When farm prices went down in 1978, Bill went back to the oil patch for another five years as a stationary engineer running boilers. Although Mr. Carson had a stroke in June of 1991, he has since recovered. Return
