From the Smoky Lake Signal, April 10, 2002. Volume 24, Number 47. Music teacher Returns A former resident of Smoky Lake known for her work with the music program at H.A. Kostash school and private piano and organ lessons is returning to sing! Christine Horne, teacher of music to over 300 Smoky Lake children has rapidly become one of Edmonton's finest keyboard and local acts. Chris began singing at Karaoke spots in 1998 and was surprised people began asking where they could buy her CDs and come watch her perform. Standing ovation's, requests autographs became part of her average night at karaoke. In October last year Chris decided to turn professional and got her first gig at The Liberty Steakhouse in Edmonton. Reception to her keyboard and vocal show was exceptional and in February Chris moved into Honest Mur's Lounge and Nightclub. As at Liberty, Chris became a hit with many of the patrons who felt she was the best singer ever presented at the club. She quickly became Mur's featured performer with a show every Sunday as well as Thursday and Friday every six weeks. Friends from Smoky Lake heard of Chris's success and convinced her to perform for an evening in Smoky Lake. Chris is totally excited about returning to perform in front of hers and husband Glenn's old friends and acquaintances. Their daughter Jody, is a resident of Smoky Lake and married to Brian Jerama. "I've never been as excited about a show as this one" says Chris. It will be super playing for friends and former students." Glen has dropped her demo CD at numerous spots in Edmonton and us far every lounge has wanted to hire her. For April in May, Chris only wants to play at Smoky Lake and Mur's and she is now recording her first CD at Damon Studios in Edmonton. "We recently began a Karaoke and DJ service with Mel Savoie, one of Edmonton's finest singers and DJ's. Mel has hosted weddings with nearly 1000 guests and is exceptional. People in Smoky Lake will love him, I expect he will be doing weddings in Smoky Lake this summer. Chris performers April 19 at the Smoky Lake Curling Club 8 p.m. till midnight. Glen will host Karaoke from midnight to closing time. Funds raised will go to the Smoky Lake Curling Club. Glen warns that Chris's show is aggressive and power packed. "For those who like their music quiet, grab a seat far from her." Chris's show, called "An Evening with Christine" incorporates all types of music-Blues, Country, and Hard Rock but is based around her finest material, love songs such as "Unchained Melody" and "I Will Always Love You."
