Volume 10, 39. Wednesday, February 10, 1988 Accident.At 9:30 in the morning of February 3rd a vehicle entering highway 28 four miles east of Vilna, at the junction of the Whitefish Lake turnoff was in collision with a semi truck which struck on the passenger side. Both occupants of the car sustained serious injuries. The passenger, Pearl Kapicki, 67 years old of Vilna, died on arrival at Smoky Lake Hospital. Her husband Metro Kapicki, 61, is in intensive care at the University Hospital, Edmonton. The driver of the truck was not injured. Pearl Kapicki is survived by her husband Metro of Vilna, one son and three daughters – Dan of Vilna, Patricia and her husband Ian Jones of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Joanne and her husband Jim Ellerington of Rosthern, Saskatchewan and Maria and her husband Ray Melmoth of Farrow, Yukon; four grandchildren Carol, Kelley, Crhis and Allison, one step brother and four stepsisters. Prayer services were held Sunday, February 7th at the Vilna Cultural Centre. Burial followed on Monday at the Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church in Vilna. Father Tarasenko officiated.
