Steve Kuzyk

Steve Kuzyk of Wastatenau passed away on November 2, 1994 at the age of 72 years. On Friday, November 5 at 2 p.m. a funeral service was held at the Waskatenua Community Centre. Pastor Cathy Lepard officiated; Sharon Phillips played the organ. Pallbearers were Cheryl and Michele Dodd, Dennis Robak, Vern Lubemsky, Tony Kwasny and Russel Moscaluk. After the internment in Sprucefield Cemetery, lunch was served at the Community Centre, prepared by friends and neighbours.

The eldest of nine children of Mike and Annie Kuzyk, Steve was born on April 20, 1921 at Darling, Alberta. He attended Darling School, and later farmed with his father and his brothers. In 1950 he moved to Sprucefield, where he continued farming, raising both grain and cattle.

In 1980 he retired from farming, but remained on the home place with his wife Vickie and daughter Ramona, in the new house they had built in 1976.

Steve worked hard on the farm, but found time for involvement in community organizations and activities. He was one of the organizers of the rural mail delivery, and was still on the Board of Directors of the Waskatenau Rural Electrification Association at the time of his death.

A very private person, Steve seldom talked about himself. he loved to read, especially informational books and publications, and possessed a wide range of knowledge on a number of subjects.

Steve is survived by his loving wife Vickie; one daughter, Ramona of Waskatenau, four brothers, John (Jean) of Waskatenau, Alex, Fred (Victoria) all of Edmonton, Gilbert (Judee) of Newbrook, two sisters, Olga (Mike) Achymichuk of Lacombe and Helen Robak of Edmonton. He was predeceased by his father in 1967, his mother in 1970, his brother Leo in 1979 and his brother Bill in 1980.
