From the Smoky Lake Signal, Wednesday, May 7, 1980. Used with permission. Hardball in Cenotaph Park Cenotaph Park to the west side of the Curling Rink in Smoky Lake is a handy place for kids to play. But the problem of flying balls from the impromptu baseball games has resulted in one Smoky Lake business owner, Alex Chern, to push for town council to outlaw the game on the site. It's the shop's big windows that plumber Alex Chern is worried about. With one of his broken in 1978 he's worried that this year ball season will do it again. The council decided a "no playing ball" sign wouldn't have much effect, so voted to have the swings and slides moved to the front of the lot to effectively push the ball players away from the many windowed main street.
