Victoria's Last Move
From the Smoky Lake Signal, September 17, 1980

They should have put wheels on Victoria School when it was built in 1944. This is the third move for the two room school and hopefully the last. The Zidar Brothers from Andrew are moving it on the new basement overlooking the baseball diamonds and complex parking lot. There it will soon house the Smoky Lake and district museum.

The building's second move was from the north end to the south end of the HAK school lot. Frank Zidar also did that one in 1967. That left room for the school expansion. The 2 room school's first move in 1952 was from the Victoria School site on 855 a few miles south of Smoky to the HAK lot.  It was Mike Zukiwsky's rig of Willingdon that heaved and hauled it the first time.

Having been built in 1944 the school doesn't have much historical value as a building. It was typical of the two room rural schools built to serve the still substantial country population.

But as the last of the Victoria School district No. 75 schools to be built it can trace it's lineage back to one of the first education facilities in the province.
